Hamworthy Combustion Scrubbing Towers are specifically designed to reduce pollutant emissions (SO2, HCl, Cl2, HBr, Br2, HF, NH3, etc.) from stationary sources, such as Hazardous Waste Incinerators, down to the emission levels set by Local Authorities.
Compliance with EU Directive 2000/76/EC, US CAA/NESHAP, RCER 2004 etc. is ensured through multi-pollutant absorption process design and latest generation Mass Transfer Equipment.
In compliance with B.A.T. approach, "counter-current washing" is extensively applied to ensure the best performance at the lowest pressure drop.
Pollutant laden gases enter the Scrubbing Tower from the bottom and flow upward through the selected Mass Transfer Equipment (e.g. Random/Structured packed Bed, Valve Trays or a combination of the two). Scrubbing liquids enter the tower from the top and flow down the tower thereby contacting cleaner gases with cleaner liquids to always operate at maximum driving force. Before leaving each absorption stage, gases flow through a Mist Eliminator that removes any entrained droplets.
Chemicals such as Caustic Soda, Sodium
Bi-sulphite, Sulphuric Acid, etc. are typically added to the scrubbing liquids either for pH control or for boosting the driving force.

Hamworthy Combustion Wet Scrubbers are bespoke designed to achieve up to 99.99% collection efficiency on gaseous pollutants and up to 99% collection efficiency on dust particles with 10.0 µm equivalent diameter. Gas flow rates up to 140,000 m3/h (82,500 acfm) can be processed in a single circular scrubber ID 4.5m (15 ft). Higher flow rates can be handled by increasing the tower diameter. Standard Gas turn-down capabilities are 30% for Tray Scrubbers and 20% for Packed Scrubbers. Depluming capabilities can be added to the wet scrubber for eliminating any visible plume from the stack or to minimize water consumption. The Wet Scrubber can be designed to act as an Acid Recovery Unit to ensure the recovery of the scrubbed acid as valuable concentrated solution. Single Scrubbing Towers as well as complete packages including piping, valves, ducts, rotating equipments etc. can also be supplied. ASME Code or any other international pressure vessel design code can be applied.
