Hamworthy Combustion Urea Tray Scrubbers are individually designed to effectively remove Urea Dusts from exhaust gases generated by modern Urea Granulation Plants. Collected Urea Dust is recovered as an aqueous solution while plant stack emissions are reduced down to the limits set by Local Authorities. Compliance with EU Directives, US EPA, RCER 2004 etc, is ensured through accurate process design and application of best-in-class Mass Transfer Equipments.
Urea dust laden gases from the Granulation Unit and/or Cooler Unit enter the Scrubbing Tower from the bottom and flow upward, first through a Saturation Spray System that quenches and saturates exhaust gases, then through a set of Valve Trays that collects urea dust particles. Concentrated Urea solution is used as the scrubbing medium and recovered as a valuable product. It enters the tower from the top and flows downwards thereby contacting cleaner gases with cleaner liquids so as to always operate at maximum driving force. Before leaving the scrubber, gases flow through an intermittently washed Mesh Type Mist Eliminator that prevents any carry-over.

Hamworthy Combustion Urea Tray Scrubbers are bespoke designed to achieve and exceed 99% Urea dust collection efficiency both on Cooler lines and on Granulator lines where finer dust particles are expected. Gas flow rates up to 140,000 m3/h (82,500 acfm) can be processed in a single round-shaped scrubber ID 4.5m (15 ft). Higher flow rates can be handled by increasing the tower cross section. Gas side turn-down capabilities are 30% or even lower with special design. Urea solution with up to 45%wt concentration can be used as a scrubbing medium and recovered as a valuable product. Inherently low gas-to-liquid ratios allow significant savings in terms of pump size and power consumptions. Single Scrubbing Towers as well as complete packages including piping, valves, ducts, rotating equipments etc, can be supplied. ASME Code or any other international pressure vessel design code can be applied.
