A Multipoint Ground Flare (MGF) allows for safe disposal of large volume gaseous waste streams without any externally visible flame by keeping the combustion inside the windshield fence, whose materials and design accommodate for the thermal demands and combustion air needs of the enclosed flames. The hidden flame not only minimizes the visual impact but also reduces the emitted noise and provides “zero radiation” outside the system, allowing for the operators to work outside the MGF with the system in operation (removing the requirement for plant shut down). Hamworthy Combustion can design and supply the complete MGF systems including the windshield fence in modules (panels) of conventional transportation sizes to be bolted on site (no welding). At grade by the main fence, specially designed second lower windshield fences can be installed, to improve the natural ambient air draught into the main fence when the combustion process and destruction efficiency need additional optimization, and to shield every open portion of the main fence (zero radiation)
For particular applications, the burners can be installed into a pit and/or without any fence.
Suitable designs are available also for gases at cryogenic conditions.
